About Us
Hello my name is Michael Sands and I am a licensed insurance agent in Health, Life, Accident, and Property & Casualty since 1989. I share this info with you so you know I am experienced and that the info I am presenting is credible . . . I am not just someone who thought it would be cool to make a website about Health Insurance. I made my living selling Health Insurance and I came to realize that there is a huge lack of resources and/or places where someone can get unbiased accurate and honest information on Health Insurance.
During my career I could sense the frustration and fear of people who knew they needed Health Insurance yet they also knew they were completely vulnerable and exposed by their lack of knowledge. The medical system in itself is daunting and scary from the lack of info that is shared with you by the doctors and hospitals concerning your own health, which you think you should have complete access to. So, if that weren't enough to deal with then you have the insurance side of it where even less information is shared with you until it's too late. What I mean by too late is the moment you learn after purchasing your policy that something isn't covered when you get the bill from your doctor. You call the Insurance Company or the Agent and they say oh Mr. Smith that's not covered in your policy until after you pay your deductible. But you say I have a $35 co-pay to see the doctor which I paid, so why aren't my x-rays at my doctor appointment covered? It's only then that your policy is fully explained to you after the fact after you have purchased the policy.
It's not that you're Agent or the Insurance Company lied to you or intentionally misled you. They just didn't read ever line of the contract to you, because you do have a certain level of responsibility when entering into a contract and signing it. The problem is you didn't know what questions to ask before you bought the policy because no one has ever explained Insurance to you let alone Health Insurance, and that is where the Insurance Industry needs to do a better job.
So, that is where this website and I come into play. I am here to educate you in an unbiased way because I am not trying to sell you anything nor am I representing one company in particular. Throughout the site I will refer you to companies I feel do a good job and can help you, and based on the info you have learned here you will be able to ask the right questions and protect yourself. You have heard the old saying "Knowledge is power", but the truth is "Applied knowledge is power". Knowledge in itself means nothing if you don't know how to apply it and use it to your benefit. I hope you gain that knowledge from this site and ultimately learn how to apply it to your benefit.
